DIY Body Wrap

There are endless ads on the radio about body wraps, and I was curious, but I'm also cheap so I didn't want to shell out the $100 dollars. I also didn't want to waste an afternoon on it if it turned out to be a bust, so I decided to go DIY.

The supplies: Bliss Fat Girl Six Pack from Sephora and saran wrap/ace bandages from the dollar store. The Fat Girl Six Pack is pricey at about $36, but you can get at least three wraps out of it. If that's still to high for your budget, I've heard you can use any lotion, I just wanted the extra tightening benefits of this one.

I slathered up, but didn't rub the Six Pack in, then wrapped myself about 8 times with saran wrap. I actually has to re-wrap after the first half hour because the slickness of the Six Pack, plus the fact that I didn't put the wrap high and low enough, creating what I can only describe as a death grip saran wrap belt. The second time was much more successful, I started at my low hips and went as high as about an inch under where my bra would go.

Next, I covered that with the ace bandages, one going from my low hips to natural waist and then a second from there up. Really important that it's snug but not uncomfortably so.

And then I waited, and did chores around the house walking like Frankenstein. And went to bed and got up this morning to the results below. I'll definitely do it again!

After!

UPDATE 6/24

These are my results after a week and a half. Note - I was PMS'ing when I took the pic and usually I bloat that week but my results are holding pretty strong.

 UPDATE 7/3

Thanks for all the comments everyone - I hope you all have as great of luck as I did! Keep leaving questions in the comments, I'm currently on vacation but will check in when I can.

Also, here are a few pictures of the wrap process for ya :)

    1. Sure did! Wrapped myself a couple hours before bed, did some light cleaning, slept in it and took it off first thing in the morning :)

    1. I posted it a couple days after I did it, so it's been over a week now and my results are still the same! Diet and excercise haven't changed since I did it, I eat fairly healthy and work out a couple times a week, I've keep my routine the same and the results seem to be sticking.

    2. Ive tried your recipe and you're right, it is really slick. After the ace bandages, I put on my spanx over top of the wraps on my thighs and stomach and it helped keep them from sliding all over

    1. If I recall it was Sephora, though it may have been online from Nordstrom.

    2. They also have it at Ulta beauty supply!

Also, what exactly did you do with the ace bandages?

  4. Why is it called a "$15 DIY Bodywrap" if the Fat Girl Six Pack is about $36? These results are just amazing and I would like to try this but $36 for that is kind of expensive

    1. The bottle is good for at least 3 different "sessions", so I was basing it on cost per use - I've also used L'Oreal's Sublime Slim line, not as a wrap but just regular use. Lower price point at about $12 and I can highly recommend that product as well :)

    2. okay thanks:) do you know of any other lotions that could work with this method, in the original post when you put "I've heard you can use any lotion" what types of lotion were you refering to?

    3. Anything with caffeine/green tea/mint is best and the thicker the better. Part of the reason it works is by making you sweat (which feels really weird under the saran wrap lol) and any of those factors will contribute. I've heard good things about Deep Steep ody butter (you can get it on amazon) but I haven't tried that one myself yet!

  5. Do you put it over night and sleep with it and take it off the next morning? Or for how many hours do we keep ot on? Thanks.

    1. Yep, I did it a few hours before bed and slept in it, so probably a total of 10-11 hrs. You can wear it up and walking around but I wouldn't recommend it because mine shifted more when I was doing stuff. It also made me walk like a mummy a little bit so I couldn't bend over to pick things up or anything. That was a huge benefit of doing it at home though was that I could sleep in it, and I feel like that probably gave me better results than an hour at a wrap place.

    1. That was just once, I plan in seeing how long the results last but it's been about a week and a half now and it still looks the same! Regardless I want to do it in a month or so to see if I get even more results.

  9. Do you think the Bliss fat girl slim/Fat girl sleep would work if so which one do you think would be better

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They all have similar ingredients so probably yes! I picked six pack because it had the best reviews I was finding, but I'm sure any of the Fat Girl line would work. Of those 2 I'd say probably sleep since it was intended for overnight use.

  10. How often is it okay do to this? I did it last night, and it worked wonderfully, I really want to do it once more!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I wouldn't do it more than once a week or two because it does keep your skin from "breathing" while you have it on. I'm planning on doing it once a month. Glad to hear you got great results!

  11. I'm def gonna try this. You said the key is to make ur body sweat. Could ur use one of the belly insulator wraps. I wear it while I'm working out but I wonder if it would help to go over the bandages to keep the heat in?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh totally I think it would help! As long as it's not like an electric one that generated heat. Because that + plastic wrap = :/

  12. How well did you clothes fit after this? I've gained 10-15 lbs and my clothes are starting to get tighter and not fit, so i wanna do this to loose some pounds & hopefully be able to wear my old clothes again without having to buy new ones!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ugh, same here! That's actually why I wanted to try it was I had gained weight and NONE of my clothes were fitting right! To give you an idea, the sweats I had on in the after picture were fitting fairly snug around my hips before and you can see now they're hanging off a bit. I was able to fit comfortable back into anything that had gotten tight in the hip region. Still need to work on my thick thighs though!

    1. I actually did do it on my thighs also, it works! I didn't see as drastic results as I did on my mid section though, I think because I didn't wrap my thighs as well. The part of my legs I really want to lose inches on would be my inner things and I didn't wrap high enough I don't think.

  14. This is great! But, could I just use like coco butter cream? For reasons of not being able to buy new products.. I know its a thicker cream..but doesn't have any special ingredients to contribute as well as the sephora cream..any ideas?

    1. I've heard - I haven't tried it myself though - that you can crush up a pain killer like aspirin that has caffeine in it and add that to the lotion since that's the active ingredient in most tightening lotions.

      Delete
  15. How did you come up with this wrap? Because its the only good one that ive come across yet...

Also, what kind of (cheap) lotion would work?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I did a lot of research on the wraps they use at spas and this seemed like the best way to do an at home version. Plus I had already purchased the Fat Girl product so i figures it would be a great way to try it!

For a $5 drugstore version, try Vaseline Firming Lotion :)

  16. I was actually wondering what other lotions you recommend? I have PCOS and gained 30 pounds in 3 months. I really need help. I've lost 15 pounds since I found out but the only clothes I can wear is yoga pants and Sophie shorts. :(

    1. L'Oreal Sublime Slim OR Vaseline Firming. I've heard (have not tried) that you can add crushed up aspirin because the caffeine content helps.

      Delete
  17. Could you use any kind of regular lotion?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep, but you'll get better results from something that's made to be tightening or has caffeine. Or, I've heard you can crush up aspirin since it contains caffeine and add that to any lotion to boost its effectiveness.

  18. I was told that drinking loads of water helps with this process. Did you find that to be the case as well?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm a pretty heavy water drinker as it is, but yes it will definitely help flush your body and the more you drink the less you retain so it can only be useful. Plus the wrap can be dehydrating so I'd recommended it for just feeling better while doing it too.

  20. can you use just plain hand lotion for this? what are some other name brands you'd recommend for the lotion part.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can, I've also heard you can add crushed aspirin to the lotion because the caffeine makes it more effective. You can use any lotion, but of course, if it's designed to be tightening you're going to get better results. A $5 alternative is vaseline firming :)

    1. Hi, it's how a lot of professional spas do it, so I trust it, but I know some people are concerned about having the pastic next to their skin. If that's a concern for you I'd recommend using a lotion with as few ingredients as possible or all natural ingedients and a towl instead of plastic wrap. I'm a firm believer in everything in moderation though, so I don't feel concerned doing it once a month or so. But totally a personal decision :)

  24. Thank you SO much for posting this! I make my own body butters and actually have powdered caffeine on hand, so for anyone else wondering, caffeine powder can be added to lotions at a 1-5% ratio. Just me sure to dissolve it into a small amount of water first, add a preservative then to your lotion base and your good to go! I can't wait to try this wrap!!
I gained 30 pounds with birth control, I just can't lose....so I am crossing my fingers here!!

    1. The only time I felt the sweating was when I was up and moving around and I could feel it kind of dripping under the wrap which was - weird haha. No problem once I went to bed though!

  28. Do you think that you would get these results on other parts of your body? like thighs or arms?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I did it on my things as well and got results, not as drastic as on my mid section but I also don't think I wrapped them as well. The wrap startedright under the chubbiest part of my thighs so I need to try it wrapping over that part.

      Delete
  29. I have a couple questions. One, do you know how many inches you lost from doing this? And two, how often do you suggest doing the wrap? Like, would it be okay to do it once a week?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I didn't measure but I'm guessing a few around my muffin top/waist. I'm planning on doing it once every two or three weeks, I think you could safely do it every week but I think how drastic of the effects are would probably not be as great the second time around.

    1. Hm, I don't know that it would have the same tightening effect and it seems maybe messier, I'd try their firming lotion if that's an option - if not you could always try it, this wrap was just a trial and error thing on my part and it worked great so I guess you never know until you try!

    1. I didn't suck in, but I did kind of flex. I did it tightly enough that I had to wiggle my finger to get under it but not so tightly that I couldn't breathe. Honestly I think what was more important was wrapping it high and low enough to not move around.

I know I have old sports injury wraps that look at lot like the one in the photo above, also the plastic wrap how many times should I wrap it around, what would you recommend? The more the better? Also what about sports pre-wrap working? How long did you leave it on? How fast did you see the results?(I'm looking for super duper fast results,as it is summer and that means tons of swim parties everyday (I have one on the 14th this month 0.o )plus I have muscles and i wanna be able to show them off but you cant tell)How many aspirin would you put in the lotion? Again the more the better? Finally, how long have the results lasted? Well I think that's all

Does ibuprofen work to crush it up? If so how many should I crush?
Would foil work instead of the plastic wrap?
For lotion I have jergens shea butter would that work?
Last question sorry :p I have regular Vaseline would that work?
    Thank you so much! :D

    1. Vasiline, ibuprofen, or foil are NOs. Though jergens will work. you want a profuct with out petroleum or mineral oil ( which actually block you from absorbing the lotion, it is a cheap filler in most lotions that also give a silkily feeling)

  73. How did you get the saran wrap to stay put. When I tried it, the saran wrap kept rolling down.

    1. That happened to me the first time I did it too. The trick I found was to wrap it high and low. So I started under my hips and spiraled it up around me to just under my bra.

    1. I've used the Itworks wraps with much success! I highly recccemd them! I've lost 13" in two sessions. Two friends and I split the cost of a box (loyal cuatomer at 59) after our first wrap party so it came down to 20 dollars for each of us. We used the extra one on my mom for her birthday she loved it! Bottom line is, if you share the cost with a fried this a also a great way to go.

ALSO!!! Either way drink tons and tons of water. And when you think you've had enough....drink more.

Never wrap your tummy and thighs in the same night. Your body can't handle it......it's just not safe so please don't so it. Wrapping itself is safe if done properly. Happy wrapping y'all :)

  77. What if you can't get a hold of firming lotion, would bath and body works lotions work? That's all I have? And do they NEED to have caffiene in it to work?

  78. So I have herd that it isn't good to keep a body wrap on overnight because your skin cant breath is that just one of those internet rumors????

  79. Hi there, I just ordered this and can't wait to try the wrap! Did you shower the morning you took the wrap off? I've read that certain places recommended not to shower 24 hours after a wrap.

    Thanks for sharing this!!

  80. Hey just wondering how often you recommend doing this? like would once a week be ok or maybe not that often?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Wondered if you'd ever compared to ItWorks wraps? They're $69 for 4 (if loyal customer) so the price is comparable. You can use one every 72hrs to get your results, then it recommends maybe once a month to "maintain" And lots of water to follow up. They detoxify AND tighten & firm. No bandages needed. Just saran wrap them on for 45 min & it keeps working for 72 hrs. I'm HORRIBLE at diet & exercise. I used ONE wrap over a year ago & lost over an inch. Despite 10 lb weight difference at this time, that INCH is still gone. My cousin sells them, but I buy them directly through the website myself.

  85. After I saw your review I was SO excited to try this! I bought he Fat Girl Bliss from Amazon, a whole new blox of Glad plastic wrap and brand new Ace bandanges. I'd been waiting all week to try this and since the lotion finally came in yesterday I did it before bed last night about 7:30 pm. I rubbed the Fat Girl bliss all over my stomach, sides, and back, wrapped it up in plastic then bandaged everything into place. I then repeated the process on my thighs and upper arms. It tingled and burned and I was getting even more excited I put some old(ish) shapewear underwear and a cami on over everything for extra hold power, dressed in a loose long sleeve shirt and leggings and tucked in for the night. It was hot and stingy, but I knew it was working.

I woke up this morning at 7:30 to shower and get ready for work and as I unwrapped everything to check out the results... nothing. I looked absolutely the same as I did yesterday. Everything still bloaty and flabby. I'm not a huge girl, I've just lost 45 pounds and I've been at a steady 137 for a few months now so i wasn't looking for a Biggest Loser type transformation; I was just hoping for some firming and toning and results more akin to what your pictures showed. Maybe I shouldn't have eaten dinner last night? I'm just not sure what I did wrong, but I had a very sad morning. Any thoughts or suggestions? I'm more than willing to try again!

  86. I want to try this but did it really happen over night? I didn't think that could just happen over night, but can it?

  87. This doesn't work at all. I did everything exactly how I was supposed to. This is the third night trying it and I still look the same.

  88. Hey there - I see you've gotten a lot of questions, I'm interested in trying it myself.
In looking on Sephora's website, I see there are a few different products.
Do you recommend the fatgirlsixpack or fatgirlslim?
There is also one made especially for sleeping... did the caffeine in the sixpack make it hard to sleep?
    Thanks.

  91. Hey :-)
I'm from Denmark, and we don't have that kind of "lotion" here, so i wonder if i just can use a regular body lotion, and then wrap? I hope to hear from you.

    1. I've heard that you can but haven't tried myself! I've read that the best results come from a lotion that has caffeine in it. Good luck!

  92. My advice to y'all is before you try this definitely record your measurements and your weight. That way you can see if it really is working for you. And remember everyone will get different results, some more than others.

  93. So, there has been a lot of different sides to this. Some people say it works wonders and others say it doesn't work at all. What do you think personally? And is doing this that bad for you? What are the risks?

    1. I personally haven't had any negative effects. The results definitely vary, my results were awesome, my roommate got pretty good results, but some people are saying it didn't work for them at all.

  95. Thanks for this post, and for taking the time to answer so many questions! I wonder if any of the folks who didn't get results have looked into this lotion at all... it DOES say on Sephora's website that if you do not eat somewhat healthy or ever work out, that the results will not be as powerful as it is for those who do. And it also makes sense to me that it would work better on someone who is looking to TONE a body part, rather than magically make large amounts of fat disappear. Measuring and taking before and after pics definitely helps too!! You may be pleasantly surprised by what you see there compared to just looking in the mirror. (Mirrors can be very mean and deceiving!!) Once again, thank you Trisha for a great DIY post!!

P.S. Is it okay to use regular lotion??

    ..... just kidding :)

  96. Hi I would love to try this I am getting married next year and I need some extra help to lose this stomach. I would love to get this. What do I need to do.

    ReplyDelete
  97. This looks amazing and I think I'll try it soon!

I do want to point something out about the aspirin, though... "Regular" aspirin (no matter the strength) does NOT contain caffeine! Since caffeine is supposedly the ingredient which helps to cause the results of sweating and tightening (thus loss of inches and/or pounds), using regular aspirin won't work! Excedrin contains aspirin, acetaminophen (Tylenol), and caffeine, so that one could possibly work -- but I still wouldn't personally be comfortable doing that. But PLEASE do NOT use aspirin!

I'm a pharmacist, by the way! *Therefore, I must also legally say that this information should not be taken as professional and/or medical advice and is only my personal "opinion" as a commenter here!* ;)

  101. Hi I'm a wound care community nurse in australia and it sounds like great results are achieved but for anyone trying diy wraps or any wrap to arms, legs and thighs I would strongly advise seeing your GP first. It sounds alot like compression bandaging and that is not recommended to certain people with medical or heart conditions, anyone that suffers DVT(deep vein thrombosis) is at high risk of clotting and any kind of compression could cause death. Not trying to scare anyone but we are educated on the amount of pressure /Tension to apply for patients that retain fluid and you really should seek medical advice first. Also would recommend A patch skin test for some of the creams, leaving them on wrapped up for so many hours may cause reactions or skin allergies unless the products are made for that purpose.
